English Language

2021 ended with a bang at Docklands Academy! We welcomed a large and lively group of students from Algeria, who had a great time improving their spoken English and exploring a wintry and festive London. We miss you all already and look forward to more students coming from Algeria in the coming months. January begins and the English department continues its face to face provision alongside our continuing online students. Progression is being made and students are enjoying developing their language skills.

Social Calendar

Ice Skating Rink at Natural History Museum
Until 16th January

Set against the backdrop of the Waterhouse building, the Ice Rink at the Natural History Museum is one of the most magical places to be this winter. Experience the  thrill of skating surrounded by fairy lights nestled in frost-covered trees, with the smell of mulled wine in the air. Whether you can dance on ice like Torvill and Dean, or you skate more like Bambi, a visit to the Museum’s Ice Rink is a must this festive season.

Light display at Kenwood House
Until 9th January

Kenwood House has a new Christmas light trail at its stately location on Hampstead Heath running all the way through until 9th January. The trail is a ‘multi-sensory mix of light, fire and sound’, with installations, a 'light avenue', laser garden and a banging sculpture by Hannelora Johansson. At the end of the trail, there are craft stalls, street food and most importantly, a fully licensed bar selling hot booze. If anywhere in London can make you feel Christmassy, it’s Hampstead Heath.

COVID19 Update

England has moved to Plan B in response to the risks of the Omicron variant.

  • Get vaccinated and get your booster dose
  • Wear a face covering in most indoor public places and on public transport
  • Work from home, if you can
  • Let fresh air in if you meet indoors. Meeting outdoors is safer
  • Get tested and self-isolate if required
From 7 January you do not need to take a PCR test before you travel to England or self-isolate when you arrive. Take a rapid lateral flow test on or before day 2 after you arrive and if it’s positive you must take a PCR test.

From 11th January if you get a positive rapid lateral flow test result, most people will not need to take a PCR test to confirm the result. You must self-isolate immediately if you get a positive rapid lateral flow test result.
