Happy New Year!

As we start 2021, there are lots of exciting developments on the horizon. Let’s take a look at what we have in store….

Higher Education

Induction for new HNC students commenced on the 4th Jan. Induction kicked off with a virtual introduction to life and the academy, including expectations of the academy and what the students can expect from the academy.

Induction students were given an online study skills seminar on “Paraphrasing”, a key skill required in their assignments. This seminar included teaching and practical elements, giving students the opportunity to try out these new skills. This is the first in a series of study skills seminars which aim to support students in their journey developing their academic skills.

The start of the semester for new students and students midway through HNC/HND courses is next Monday 11th Jan for weekday students, and Saturday 16th Jan for weekend students. In light of the continuing pandemic, all lectures will continue online until further notice.

London

Covid-19 Update

As of 5th Jan, England has gone into a full national lockdown. This means people must stay at home, unless absolutely necessary. Permitted reasons to leave the house include getting essential items, such as food or medical supplies. Schools have been closed, with learning to continue online. People are permitted to go outside for exercise once a day, and can only meet one person from another household for exercise, making sure that they maintain social distance. It’s not all bad news: Vaccination has begun in the UK, with thousands of elderly and front-line workers being called in for vaccination. Meanwhile, the Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine has been improved for use in the UK (and India!). This vaccine is far cheaper and easier to transport than the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and promises an even faster roll-out of vaccinations to the population.
