Higher Education

We come to the end of another amazing term of Higher Education. Students have submitted their assignments and the term has ended with quizzes, prizes and lots of innovative and exciting formative assessment, testing students’ knowledge of the course in fun and imaginative ways. Feedback from students has expressed both appreciation and satisfaction with the online delivery received during the pandemic.

English

We are so pleased to announce that we have recommenced face-to-face learning at the Academy. We continue to deliver online learning as well and students are happy to be able to take advantage of the best of both offerings. We have been conducting recorded interviews with some of our online students and look forward to being able to share their feedback on online learning with DAL shortly on our youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/docklandsacademy

Explore London

Just as Spring is arriving in London, the first shoots of a return to normal life are beginning to appear. From 12th April, pubs and restaurants with outdoor space will be able to welcome customers back to use their outdoor spaces in groups of up to six. For those of you looking for a special treat, the wonderful Sky Garden is taking bookings from the 12th April. Go and soak up those incredible views!

As of the 12th of April our partner restaurants will start garden service. You can check out the fabulous Anatolian Cuisine at Hazev in Canary Wharf, Ev, Tas Pide, located right opposite Shakespeare’s Globe, Tas Bloomsbury near the British Museum and Tas the Cut. We are also super excited about the new kid on the block, Amora Gusto in Southwark where there is a beautiful garden waiting for you to enjoy warm al fresco dinning in the heart of London!

This Month: Autism Awareness Week

1 in 100 people are on the autism spectrum, and there are around 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK alone. Though everyone on the spectrum may have different experiences and needs, World Autism Awareness Week, which runs from 29th March – 4th April, is a chance to speak up for the rights of all autistic people, and highlight the social, economic, health and educational obstacles that many autistic people face.

In 2021, the National Autistic Society is putting on a huge virtual event: The Super 7 Challenge! In support of the 700,000 autistic people living in the UK, you are encouraged to take on a 7-themed challenge – from running, walking or cycling, to creating art, music, or food, you can choose anything to help raise funds during World Autism Awareness Week. Covid-19 Update

Lockdown started to ease last month with children returning to primary and secondary schools from 8 March and outdoor gatherings of either two households or six people will be able to meet outside including private gardens.

Further easing will continue, as long as scientific data shows things are moving in the right direction. Here is outline of changes to happen in coming months in steps:

Step two will start no earlier than 12 April:

  • Non-essential retail will open. People will be able to get a haircut.
  • Pubs and restaurants will begin to open, for outdoors service. There will be no curfew, and no requirement for people to order a substantial meal.
  • Zoos, theme parks, and drive-in cinemas will open, as will public libraries and community centres.

Step three will start no earlier than 17 May.

  • Most restrictions on meeting outdoors will then be lifted.
  • Pubs and restaurants will open for indoor service.
  • Cinemas, play areas, hotels, and theatres will also open. And larger events will be allowed, subject to enhanced testing.

Step four will start no earlier than 21 June.

  • At that point all limits on social contacts should be lifted.
  • And large events like weddings should be able to go ahead.

More good news: Vaccination has begun in the UK, at time of writing 47.3% of the population have received the first dose!
