Changes to Maintenance Loan Eligibility for Weekend Study
Update on Weekend Study and Maintenance Loan Eligibility
We would like to inform students of an important update from the Department for Education and the Student Loans Company regarding weekend study on Higher Education courses.
Courses delivered exclusively at weekends are now classified as distance learning. As a result, students enrolled on weekend-only programmes are no longer eligible for Maintenance Loan support. In some cases, students may also be contacted about repaying previously received funding.
What this means for you
Docklands Academy London and USP College are working closely with regulators to minimise disruption and support affected students. To remain eligible for Maintenance Loan funding, students must be enrolled on a course that includes weekday, on-campus study.
Proposed alternative study options (currently under review) include blended models combining weekday onsite teaching with online sessions. Students who do not require Maintenance Loan support may continue on the existing weekend format.
Next steps
Students are asked to confirm as soon as possible whether they currently receive Maintenance Loan support. Those experiencing financial difficulty are encouraged to contact the Student Loans Company regarding hardship support.
Further updates will be shared once arrangements are confirmed. In the meantime, students can contact the Academy directly for guidance and support.
